DIVING FOR CHILDREN

Before I talk about teaching children to dive, I would like to dispel a few misconceptions that we constantly have to face.
“I don’t give my child to go diving because he is not 14 years old yet. – this is a delusion, because it is allowed to teach children from the age of 8 and a diving licence is issued from the age of 10. Just this diving licence will be “Junior” which slightly limits the depth of dives. At the age of 14 the child already receives an adult diving licence. So the main thing is the desire and physical capabilities of the child.

“I already make try diving for my child at 5 and 6 years old.” – This is not very good for the child because his lungs are fully formed only by the age of 8. Breathing compressed air at depth at an earlier age can adversely affect developmental physiology.

“My child really wants to try diving, but he can’t swim – let him learn first.” — It’s not obvious, but you can start learning to dive without even knowing how to swim. In fact a modern scuba gear is such a small wearable bathyscaphe. You don’t need to know how to swim if you want to take a ride in a bathyscaphe. It is the same with scuba gear – except that it will be necessary to learn how to paddle with fins, but he will quickly master this. On the contrary if the child begins to learn diving then most likely he will learn to swim very soon because he will not have the main problem – the fear of drowning.

Well, now, actually, about the course.
Junior Open Water Diver – in terms of skills is no different from the course that adults take adjusted for children’s perception and children’s physiology. It is possible to use special lightweight equipment and a more personalized approach. But in fact many children will give odds and outdo another adult in terms of mastering the underwater depths.
The duration of the course is 3-5 days.
At the end of the course you will receive an international diving licence which allows you to dive alone in a group or with a partner to depths of up to 14 meters.
